The idea for author’s work stems from a current condition we might be all facing- of constantly feeling at a loss of experienced time. With guilt and anxiety, our emails often start with customary apologies; with customary apologies our colleagues start their emails. Apologies before The Wrist Watch, apologies before other people, apologies for the fact that we are constantly failing to wind ourselves to keep up with time. ‘I am sorry for my late reply, there were persona problems’ – is it a confession? Is it a widely accepted code? What different ways there are to say it out loud? How would pauses in between these words affect their meaning? Author’s newly commissioned installation is comprised of numerous small travelling speakers, all different brands and shapes. From each speaker, a different first line of an email is heard forming a collection of real and fictional lines. It creates a cacophony and a space in-between reality and code. A cacophony of delay, delay that runners confess in and robots reply with. “Nothing in this novel stays a secret exclusive to two persons; everyone seems to live inside an enormous resonating seashell where every whispered word reverberates, swells, into multiple and unending echoes.” Milan Kundera, Slowness.

Commissioned by the 1st Riga Biennial of Contemporary Art Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More, curated by Katerina Gregos.
