Since 1994, the head of history and theory of fine arts department of Russian Institute of Art History of RAS. Professor of Faculty of Philology and Arts of SPbSU. Founder of “Navicula Artis” gallery in St.Petersburg and Summer Humanities School in Chernyakhovsk. Member of the Max Beckmann Society.

Selected essays by art historian Ivan Dmitrievich Chechot (from the book “From Beckmann to Breker. Articles and sketches”) is devoted to various subjects of the Russian history and Western European art, as well as local events of the current artistic life.
