The monograph “Collective Forms of Artistic Performance in Russia at the Beginning of the 21st Century” for the first time examines the history of Russian performance as a form of collective creative interaction in a broad socio-cultural context. The performance has been actively and steadily spreading in the domestic art process of the last 50 years – first in the framework of nonconformism, and then in the official museum, gallery and festival life. During this time, themes, types and even principles of shaping performance in art have multiplied. In the 21st century performance art form has spread to many non-artistic areas of culture: politics, everyday life, science and education. These changes required a rethinking of the phenomenon of performance both in art discourse and in a broader – cultural – scientific discourse. The book presents the genesis of performative forms of human interaction – from rituals to avant-garde experiments – and shows how, historically emerging from the bosom of art and theater, performance has always formed new types of relationships in society, enriching not only aesthetic, but also life experience. The author proposes his own methodology, which made it possible to redefine the understanding of performance as a complex micro-laboratory of collective practices. Thus, the book not only makes a scientific contribution to the study of the performance, but also rethinking the performative character of modern culture as a whole.
