From 1989-1991 – worked as a scientific researcher in the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (Laksenburg, Austria). From 1981-1988 – as a scientific researcher in VNII of the Systems Analysis of the Academy of Science USSR. Peter Aven is the author of numerous articles, books on econometrics and the problems of reforming Russian agriculture. He graduated from the Moscow State University n. a. M. V. Lomonosov in 1977. In 1980 he defended his thesis and received a PhD in Economics (specialisation “Econometrics”). Chairman of the Board of Directors of “AlfaStrahovanie” JSC, Member of the Board of Directors of Golden Telecom, Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of “STS Media”. A member of the Council for Competitiveness and Enterprise under the Government of the RF, he is a member of the Council of Trustees of the National Organisation for Financial Accountability Standards. A Professor of the State University High School of Economics. A member of the Council of Trustees “Eisenhower Fellowships”. In 2007 he was chosen as the Head of the Russian-Latvian Business Council. From April 2006 he has been a member of the Management of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (Employers). Member of the Council of Trustees of the Russian School of Economics. He is a Trustee of the Centre of Economic Policy (CEPR), Great Britain. In April 2005 by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation he was decorated with the Order of Honour for work achievements and longstanding service. In October 2004 the magazine “Institutional Investor” named Peter Aven the best manager in the sphere of Russian financial services.

Born 6 February 1961. General Director of the television company “Public Russian Television” (ORT) from October 1999; President of the Industrial Committee of SMI from July 2002; graduated from the Leningrad State University, PhD in Biology; worked in the studio “Videofilm”; from 1989 he was the director of the television programme “Vzglyad” (Opinion); in 1992 he created the programme “Matador”, was its author and presenter; 1995-1999 – General Producer of ORT; in September-October 1999 was acting Director of the company (after the transfer of I. Shabdurasulov to the President’s Administration); academician of TEFI (1997); was elected the Secretary of the Filmmakers’ Union of Russia (1994); knows English; is married; has a daughter. He considers that the development of the new concept of “Channel 1” is his achievement as the General Producer of ORT. In the words of Ernst, his minimum plan was the liquidation of “the very poor programmes”, the introduction of “the new design of the channel which would create its image”, a significant improvement in the screening of films. He stated that the ORT team “in a short space of time has improved the quality of films shown. We have introduced the first design packages. New music has appeared, a new logotype and backdrops have appeared, supporting the image”. In September 1995, with D. Dibrov, the President of the company “Svezhiy Veter” (Fresh Wind), he became the author and director of the new entertainment programme “SV” “Podyom!” (Get up!). Together with L. Parfenov, the presenter of the programme “Namedni” (Lately) (NTV), he became the author of the New Year’s scenario the “Russian Project” (ORT). In 1992 he became a laureate of the Festival “Kinopressa- 92”. In July 2002 he became one of the initiators of the creation and President of the Industrial Committee of SMI, established by the leaders of 30 of the largest Russian Mass Media organisations. Its main task, in the words of K. Ernst, is the facilitation of cooperation between the electronic and printed SMI, advertisers, and also their cooperation with the legislative and executive authority.
