Blue Noses

The Blue Noses Group was founded in 1999.
Vyacheslav Mizin was born in 1962 inNovosibirsk, graduating the city’s architectural institute in 1984.
He now lives and works in both Novosibirsk and Moscow.
Alexander Shaburov was born in 1965 in Berezovsky, Sverdlovsk region. He graduated the Sverdlovsk College of Arts in 1985, going on to become a member of the Russian Artists’ Union in 1993. Shaburov lives and works in Ekaterinburg and Moscow.

Proletarian Conceptualism

Having exposed the secret techniques of contemporary art, seeking “chance similarities” in the works of their colleagues with pieces by renowned Western artists, and having demonstrated their own “hit-or-miss” and “lap-horse” artistic approaches, the Blue Noses are now taking a critical look at contemporary trends.
They have produced another not-entirely-serious exhibition, with photographs and commentaries dedicated to art from the era when Russia “rose from its knees” – this is spiritual, significant, serious stuff, with citations of the classics. In the humorous instructions for producing the works, reminiscent of those “do-it-yourself” construction sets, it is easy to recognize the artistic impulses that have been so notable at exhibitions in recent years and won nominations for prestigious prizes.
