Born in 1986 in Moscow. Graduated from Moscow State University, MS in Physics (2010) and Moscow Rodchenko Art School, Video and New Media department (2014). Holds the Innovation Art Prize in the “New generation” category (2014) and Kandinsky Prize in the “Young Artist. Project of the Year“ category (2017). In 2017 the video Garden was presented at the Russian pavilion of 57th the Venice Biennale.

GARDEN.

In the piece Garden Sasha Pirogova refers to eternal questions of the universe. The story of life and death transforms into the notion of light and darkness where there is no opposition. Darkness is just the shortage of light, in other words, its lack. Since a human being is a source of light it has the potential as a result of which light appears. Where a human being appears, life always emerges. In the video Garden we are witnesses of this process.

The name of the work – Garden – is a garden that blooms forever, from darkness to light. The journey made by a viewer is a process where love, which is the basis of life, triumphs. Garden is a symbol of hope, eternal triumph of life, unconditioned blooming.
