The two-part project “Division” by the Moscow artists Alexey Korsi and Alexey Mandych dissects the seemingly dualistic nature of the time-space continuum. Korsi and Mandych simulate the separation of space-time into components, each choose one, and then explore whether an analysis of space without time and time without space is even possible.
In a narrative series by Mandych, time is represented as being independent of space. His project was prompted by a recent accident when he fell off his bike and broke his arm. This incident was the starting point for a process that began to develop independently of Mandych’s will and of the place he was located.
The monumental objects by Alexei Korsi are models of giant towers, concrete landscapes without dimensions and unusual hole-spaces. Their functions are unclear, but they are filled with projections of viewers, thus turning them into a co-author and creator of the work.
