Changes in the Prize Order 2015

In the current competitive year set a new record: the total number of submitted applications  – 502: “Project of the Year” – 94 projects, “Young Artist. Project of the Year “- 123 project. (in previous years, their number does not exceed than 400). Applicants for the Kandinsky Prize is open to any Russian artist. A distinctive feature of the Prize is a possibility of self-nomination.

This year the Prize regulations has been several important changes.

From this year in the category “Scholarly work. History and theory of contemporary art ” can participate not only the Russian Federation citizens, but also participants from other countries. The works will be accepted in Russian and foreign languages also. The main condition doesn’t change – the subject of the Scholarly work should be of Russian contemporary art.

The reason of this change – to support the scientific process in the field of Russian contemporary art, to bring not only the local attention but also the international academic environment.

the Council of Experts and jury members of this nomination doesn’t change.

The changes affected the main pool of the international jury and Council of Experts in both nominations “Project of the Year” and “Young Artist”. According to the Prize regulations of the periodic rotation in 2015, the contest jury consisted Zelfira Tregulova – General Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian art historian and curator.

Andrei Erofeyev – Russian art historian and curator,

Elena Selina – art historian, curator and XL Gallery director,

Alisa Prudnikova – art historian, the Yekaterinburg branch of the State Center for Contemporary Art director,

Anna Gor – Director of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the State Center for Contemporary Art, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation,

Naila Allahverdilova – head of public art programs in the PERMM museum, art-manager, curator, artist,

Irina Bobyleva – former executive director of the Fund for Support of Contemporary Art “Winzavod”, art-manager, curator, artist,

Tatiana Sakhokiya – former director of the Kandinsky Prize 2008-2014., Ph.D.

In 2015, in the procedure of the 1st stage have an additional round of voting. Now, members of the expert council will vote in two stages: the first stage – the anonymous “yes / no”, the second – with the names of the authors and point system ratings from 0 to 10. Such a mechanism would allow for more careful selection of the nominees in the long list. The additional phase of voting will also reduce the possibility of omissions of important names and projects from the general list of contestants.

The nominees exhibition will replace the display of short list nominees, which will open a few days before and after the award ceremony.

Traditional paper catalog of the Prize will be return to the electronic format of the catalog, which will include an expanded list of projects and nominees. It will be available on the Foundation’s website.
